Garage sale finds

I only went to one large garage sale this weekend but I came home with some great fabric.  I love the large piece with the mosaic tile looking design.  I think it will make a great back for a quilt.  The shirts were good this weekend.  Lots of color.

Grandmothers Crochet

Here is a picture of a tablerunner that my Grandmother made.  She was born around 1886 and was 40 years old when she had my Father. Her oldest child and 44 when she had her 2nd child.  Wow!  That must have been quite a surprise.  She had started a crocheted bedspread but never completed it.  I ask and friend in TX to please make something from the pieces.  She made 4 tablerunners.  One for each of my siblings.  It is a real treasure.  She use to make crocheted gloves to sell.  Can you image the time it would take to crochet gloves to fit someone?  I am amazed.  Too bad I do not like to crochet.  Oh well, maybe my daughter will inherit her greatgrandmothers talent

It's a bird thing!

While I was working on the Wonky bird blocks I came across these little birds on Etsy.  Etsy is a website where people sell homemade items, vintage items, crafts etc.  I saw these little birds and had to have them.  they are about 1" tall.  They are loving living in my sewing room.  If you want the name of the girl from India who makes these let me know and I will hunt up her name.

Color inspiration

I was in Home Depot on Sunday and saw a display of paint chips.  I can not remember the brand but they have these cute little cutouts and a ring to put them all on.  I placed all of the chips on the ring and spread them out.  I think they are great.  I would like to glue them together so they will stay in place.  I feel time with the glue gun coming soon.  Look around for inspiration

Stripes again

Here is the gray stripe quilt quilted and the new top I pieced this weekend.  It was a kit from Joann fabric.  I think it is pretty cute.  Very fast.  Joann has a line of kits called Modern Quilts.  Lots of stripes and dots.  Have fun

Sewing Center

Hi, Carol ask to see more pictures of my sewing center. My husband put this together for me back in 1993. WoW! We went to The Containter Store and bought the elfa storage units. I decided what depth of drawers I need to store different sewing items. Glenn attached a solid door to the 3 piece unit and I covered it in the silver ironing board fabric. Then I put my sewing machine on top of it and tried to sew. It put the machine too high so Glenn cut a piece out of the door and made a shelf for my machine to sit on. Now the machine bed is level with the ironing surface. I pull up my chair a sew. It has worked great for all of these years. I have to push the center drawer back when I want to use the knee lift. To the left of the machine I have a cutting board. This setup works great for me. A very nice compact unit. It is on wheels so I can move it around the room or house. Have a great weekend.

Churn Dash

I am making the cutest little Churn Dash blocks using Cindy Blackburgs stamp pads.  I must go and purchase a washable stamp pad because her ink does not wash out and it is showing through on the white.  UGH.  I love her stamps.  I am using my Kaffee Fassett scraps for the Churn Dash blocks.

A wee bit of progress

Well, I did not get much sewing done this week but I do work.   Happy Anniversary to my parents, Anne and Gil Crane 57 years.  Congratulations!!!  Beth and Glenn  23 years!!  I did get a little work started on my "Bird Swap" blocks.  This is a swap with Mary Lou Weidman.  We are using her "Hoochy Momma" technique.  Those are "bird bodies" on the right.  They are waiting to be completed.

Picture of Mod Sampler

My customer/friend Susan McCormick made this Mod Sampler.  She does such nice work.

Mod Sampler

I am planning to make the Mod Sampler from  Oh Fransson blog.  It is a free pattern.  A customer made one and I loved her.  The one on Oh Fransson is not my colorway but check out her Flicker page.  Very good inspiration.  I started with the pink solids and decided it was too much pink.  So at 6:45 am, I started pulling out my solid greens.  I think green wins.  What do you think?  Have a great week.

Weekend Treasures

Oh!  I could not resist going "junking" on Saturday morning.  Here are the goodies I found.  I love the bow front dresser and mirror - both- $25.00.  The lady selling them said they were over 100 years old.  I am not so sure about that but I do like them.  Is anyone familiar witht the furniture company Kent Coffee?  This dresser is from "The Kent" collection.  I am at a loss.  Oh,  I also found so shirts.  Notice Katherine's duvet cover is getting closer to the cutting table.  LOL.  She will be home soon.  Will she make it in time to save her striped duvet?  Yes, she has a new quilt on her bed.  I found this in the bottom of her closet.

Next in the que

I have signed up for a swap with Mary Lou Weidman's online group to make Wonky Birds.  I made 2 in her class and they were lots of fun.  We have to make 6 or 8, not real sure.  I am going to get out those scrap bins and dig in.  Should be lots of fun.  I have since added legs to the red bird.  He looks like a chicken now. LOL.  Have a great day.  Beth

Gray is the New neutral

I am making a quilt that I saw on Red Pepper Quilts blog page.  As I am reading lots of blogs lately, I have
learned that Gray is the new Neutral.  It is actually growing on me.  I have made the half square triangels to go around the border.  Now to find time to sew them into rows.  That will be this weeks goal.  Oh,  many of these stripes are from the shirts I collected last week.  I still have a couple of shirts to take apart and add to my stash.  I have really had fun working with these stripes.  Have a great day. Speaking of Mats

I got a brand new mat from a company named  Speed Press.  Their address is :  http://www.speedpress.com/. I got a mat that is 36" x 72".  It is wonderful, better than any mat I have used before.  They have many sizes and I can highly recommed them.  the shipping was a little expensive because my mat was so large.  So, if you think you might want a mat I would consider ordering with a friend.  Maybe the shipping would be less.  The customer service was excellent, fast delivery and a great product.  I saw someone post about this mat on another blog(sorry, I can not remember which blog).  I emailed her and she was very happy with her mat so I decided to give it a try.  No association with this company just a satisfied customer.
